The roar of the small Beechcraft Bonanza’s engine pierced the silence of the cold, early morning, struggling to break the bonds of gravity. It wasn’t airborne for more than thirty seconds before it plunged rapidly, crashing to terra firma, killing all aboard, near Clear Lake, Iowa., February 3, 1959. Few heard the crash in the remote Iowa cornfield. However, the aftermath of the crash was heard around the world. Rock N’ Roll musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, perished, along with the 21 year old pilot, Roger Peterson. The event later became known as “The Day the Music Died,” after singer-songwriter Don McLean’s 1971, hit song “American Pie.” read more

Federal Land Agency Ignores Law Again

Below is a letter from the Lincoln County (WY) Commissioners to the USFS regarding their obliteration of segments of the Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail. The Lander Trail is protected as a cultural resource under the National Historic Preservation Act.

Read the formal complaint and especially look at the photos at the bottom. The Forest Service actions used a backhoe and other methods to obliterate and close sections of the historic trail which still show evidence of covered wagons traveling it from 1857-1868. It is unconscionable that the Forest Service officers would totally ignore a historical landmark, protected under law, in their attempt to close yet another road. read more

Cows Killed 4 Miles From Jackson

Two Angus cows have been killed by wolves not more than 4 miles from downtown Jackson, Wyoming.

Cow killed by wolves Bar BC Jackson 23 Aug 2016.

One was found dead on the morning of Aug 23 on the Bar B-C Ranch, cow belonging to the Waltons.

The second found dead this morning, Aug 25, same pasture.

Investigation shows that approximately 20 wolves are in this pack, presumably from the five wolves who lived here all winter and their offspring born in May.

This location is 3 1/2 miles from downtown Jackson by google map, as the crow flies. Or rather, as the raven flies. When I went out to see the first cow yesterday afternoon, after it had been dead for a day and a half, three eagles flew off the carcass and about 20 ravens and some magpies. The bones were picked clean. read more

Ray Pacheco’s Illegal Campaign Faux Pas

by Michelle SabroskyMichelleSabrosky

I was approached by a HD57 constituent yesterday, with a flier that former Democrat Ray Pacheco, placed in her door while she was not home.  –Something that had it been his opponent, the Casper Star Tribune would have written an article calling for a public lynching. —

Besides being a political flier that encouraged talking about the issues, that literally didn’t address any issues, the flier is missing something rather important, but not something the average constituent would have picked up on: The “Paid For By” line. read more
