Below is a letter from the Lincoln County (WY) Commissioners to the USFS regarding their obliteration of segments of the Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail. The Lander Trail is protected as a cultural resource under the National Historic Preservation Act.
Read the formal complaint and especially look at the photos at the bottom. The Forest Service actions used a backhoe and other methods to obliterate and close sections of the historic trail which still show evidence of covered wagons traveling it from 1857-1868. It is unconscionable that the Forest Service officers would totally ignore a historical landmark, protected under law, in their attempt to close yet another road.
We need new leadership in Washington to rein in these federal agencies. And we need the Sagebrush Rebellion to take back our lands from federal oversight.
